Wyatt Just Keeps On Growin’!

Wyatt is growing wide open right before our eyes! On Wednesday, he’ll be 7 weeks old. Almost two months! That’s crazy. Kim and I are cherishing every moment of our time with our son. Being parents continues to be a one-of-a-kind experience, not in terms of the struggles, but the joys.

Before I had a child, all I had mostly ever heard from people that had already had children was, “Enjoy your sleep!,” or  “Say goodbye to free time!” But, although there has been the occasional lack of sleep around here on account of Wyatt (no more than usual since we already kept extremely busy schedules), I can’t say that it has been a wearisome task adjusting. And as for free time, well, when we have it, we spend it just like we used to before Wyatt arrived: We go shopping, out to eat, get some coffee from Starbucks and drive around, just listening to music, simply enjoying one another. Yes, all three of us. Wyatt isn’t a burden; he’s a blessing. Last Friday night, he sat quietly in his carrier the whole time we were at Kincaid’s Hamburger joint (without a pacifier), and then he went to sleep as we carried him around Albertson’s grocery store buying ice cream and some charcoal.

Kim and I were reflecting on the experience of having a baby, and we both agreed that it’s just simply hard work. But that’s something neither of us are unfamiliar with, and we’re willing to do whatever it takes to be a happy, joyful family.

So here’s some more pics of our little man:

He's a long baby! 23 1/2 inches long!

Wyatt doesn't need much help to sit upright like a big boy. He looks so curious in this picture.

Sometimes, he'll swing anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes in his jungle swing. Everynow and then, he'll start dozing off and on, until his big head falls over and he wakes himself up.

  1. He looks like he’s ready to get on a horse already! I’ve got Sassy(Billy’s old horse) over here ready for him. I’ve been taking her to the roping pen and leading her around so she can get some excersize. She’s waiting!

  2. I sense a proud father. :)

I love the picture of the two Marsh Outlaws.

  3. I’m so glad y’all are enjoying parenting. I totally agree that a baby is a GREAT blessing, not a burden who is begrudged loss of sleep and free time. He is such a cute little man, and I like the cowboy picture alot. :)

  4. Whoever told you that children were a burden were not ready for children in their life or their priorities were out of order. Children are definitely a blessing from the Lord. Not only that, especially if they were like you and your sister they are more like jewels in your crown or something of that nature. I’m not sure excactly how to describe it but it is something that you are intensely proud of. There is nothing more wonderful than to have someone else tell you how great your children are. (which we have heard contiually about you guys) Someone who would consider them burdensome really has no business having children in the first place because they will not be willing to joyfully spend the time and effort it takes to raise them. No doubt it can be a tough job at times and there are no guarentees what type of personallities or temperments they will have. All of you guys with babies have to remember that they can’t even talk yet so you are just getting started! But never the less, one day when they are grown and on their own and are independent and wonderful people you will realize that there is nothing else in this life that you have the opportunity to shape or mold or influence that is greater than your children. There is no amount of material things, money, business successes, etc. that can take their place. Although not a burden but a joy, there is one thing that it takes plenty of, and that is time. The idea of quality not quantity in this case is hogwash. It takes a large quantity of quality time in this case in my opinion and I think we did a pretty good job if I do say so my self. All the days on the ballfield, on horseback, at dance, at soccergames, at church, camping, or just eating supper together were no burden. They were the best times of life. I will add this since I am lecturing, but you cannot forget your spouse during this time. You are still married. I have witnessed many couples breaking up after the children are gone. You must make sure you make time for each other too. But raise those children in the admonition of the Lord and keep sending us pictures!

  5. hey billy, i have to agree with your dad 100%. it’s kinda like that old saying you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. i am going through that, with my little girl going to college, even though i can call her and even drive to see her, it’s not the same as her being at home and it just make’s you appreciate those times that you were kept awake at nights and the 1000’s of questions. if you call things like that a burden i will take a triple dose anytime. and again i agree with pawpaw KEEP SENDING PICTURES (my wife said when you capitalize your words that means you are yelling) so did you get that message about the pictures.

  6. That is SO great, Billy! Babies are truly a blessing and taking care of them is truly a challenge. Its tough not to second guess yourself in trying to take the best care of the little one God has blessed you with. I’m still struggling with thinking that I may break Indy if i don’t do something right!

Wyatt really is a growing boy! Indy is only around 19 inches and 12 lbs right now. He definitely has more rolls than Wyatt.

Kim looks great, and you all look so happy! I wish we could be together to see our little boys wrestle around or something…big heads lolling around. haha!

  7. Hey Elise! We want to see pictures of Indy! Hope yall are doing well, and we can’t wait for Wyatt and Indy to wrestle.
